Information system identifies locations and conditions with the highest probability of occurrence of road accidents

The University of Évora Auditorium hosted a seminar on the theme “Road Safety”, as part of the MOPREVIS Project – Modeling and Prediction of Road Accidents in the District of Setúbal.

The meeting, which was attended by the GNR's Setúbal Territorial Command, took place on 6 October.

The project, which was created in 2019 in partnership between the Territorial Command of Setúbal and the University of Évora, with funding from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), aims to “locate the sensitive points with the highest probability of road accidents , able to “define actions” that reduce the accident rate, creating an artificial intelligence platform for this purpose.

The platform is based on “the compilation of information from various sources and on the constitution and analysis of databases”, which, through statistical and artificial intelligence models, create “an information system that identifies places and conditions of greater probability of occurrence”. of road accidents”.

By participating in this activity, the Setúbal Territorial Command, in partnership with the University of Évora, hopes to demonstrate its determination to identify solutions, “based on scientific evidence, so that it is possible to prevent and reduce serious road accidents in the district”.

At the seminar, the presence of Professor Ana Costa Freitas, dean of the University of Évora, Lieutenant General Santos Correia – operational commander of the GNR -, and Professor Paulo Quaresma, from the Foundation for Science and Technology, stand out.
